hot days, summer in the city
Yesturday I got an unexpected call to babysit a friends children and had more fun then I thought! They have a new kiddie pool in the back yard and I thought it would be fun for Jacob to try his hand at wading on his own. The water was cold, not cool, but cold and as soon as he set his feet into the water he started crying and then he tried to make his way to the edge to get out and he fell (not being accustumed to walking in water and all). He fell on his face! So of course he started to wail until I took him out. The other two children, mind you were both staring at him playing contently in the water. I refused to change his soggy diaper because I wanted him to really try to like it, so I kept putting him in there. While I was dipping his feet in the water so he could splash (and get used to the cold at the same time) I briefly thought about the news story about people getting hypothermia because they swim in cold water around this time of year, but I put him in anyway. He splashed for a while and then proceeded to play with intermittant whining and shivering. After he fell on his face, again, I took him out for good and changed his diaper and put his shoes on letting him warm in the sun. He then went over to their small kiddie slide, climbed up it on his own and slid down! He is such a climber. He made that clear yet again when I went inside to get drinks for the kids from the fridge and came back out to find him standing on the patio table just looking at nothing.
It was so warm yesturday I wanted to get in that pool, it was big enough, but I thought the sight of me in there by myself with all of my clothes on would have been too much for anyone to handle!
I geuss I will have to find another way to stay cool up here in this 86 degree heat! Man, I just don't know what I am going to do with myself!

On Tuesday, my dear children and I had to walk from shade to shade, resting at each blessed tree, to get home from school. I've been pregnant in summer before, but this has been ridiculous. I was SO HOT! I then realized that I had locked us out of the house (pregnancy & overheated brain - bad combo), so we made our way over to that same little pool. My kids LOVED jumping in with all of their clothes on. I, too, wanted to join them, but it's sitting in the sun, so I didn't want to encourge the heat any. So yesterday I went out and bought us our own little pool. Come on over!

Glad you and Jacob had fun at the pool. You should take him to a big pool, get those little floaties and you can both cool off.
